Your First Visit to Harbour Foot Clinic: What to Expect

Lots of people put up with sore feet for months, sometimes years, because they’re not sure what a foot care appointment involves, or they feel a little self-conscious about their feet. As one client put it in a Google review, they’d had foot pain for years because they were “too nervous to get it seen to.”

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and there’s no need to wait any longer.

Autumn is a great time to finally get things sorted. Your feet have had a busy summer, and dealing with any problems now means comfortable feet in boots all winter. Here’s exactly what happens when you visit us for the first time.

Finding Us

Harbour Foot Clinic is on Harbour Street in Mullingar. Try to arrive a few minutes early so you have time to settle in.

What to Tell Us

Before we start, we’ll ask a few quick questions about your health and your feet. It helps to let us know if you:
• Have diabetes, circulation problems or reduced feeling in your feet
• Take any regular medication, especially blood thinners
• Have any allergies
• Are pregnant
• Have had any previous foot treatment or surgery

Everything you tell us is kept confidential and helps us look after you safely.

Your Foot and Nail Assessment

Every appointment starts with a check of your feet and nails. We’ll look at your skin, your nails and any areas that are sore, and ask about your footwear and daily routine.

There’s no need to feel embarrassed. Hard skin, thick nails, verrucae and cracked heels are all part of everyday life for us, and we’ll never judge.

Your Treatment

Depending on what you’ve booked, your treatment might include:
• Trimming and shaping nails, including thick or hard-to-cut nails
• Gently reducing hard skin and corns
Ingrown toenail care
Fungal nail treatment
Verrucae treatment
Heel care for dry or cracked heels
• A medical pedicure

We’ll explain what we’re doing as we go, so there are no surprises. All treatments are carried out in a clean, clinical setting, with sterile instruments used for every client. Most routine care is comfortable, and if anything feels sore, just tell us.

How Long Does It Take?

Most appointments take between 25 and 60 minutes, depending on the treatment. Routine foot care, verrucae treatment and follow-up fungal nail care take around 30 minutes, heel care and a mini medical pedicure around 40 minutes, a first fungal nail treatment around 45 minutes, and an ultimate medical pedicure around an hour. If you need more than one treatment, we’ll let you know when booking.

What to Wear

Wear trousers you can roll up easily to the knee, or a skirt or dress, and shoes that are easy to take off. If you think a particular pair of shoes is causing the problem, bring them along so we can have a look.

Aftercare and When to Come Back

Before you leave, you’ll get simple aftercare advice to follow at home, and we’ll let you know if and when you should come back. For many people, regular appointments stop problems from building up again. We explain more in how often should you have routine foot care?

Meet Eamonn and Ciara

You’ll be looked after by Eamonn or Ciara, our foot health care assistants. They’re an experienced team delivering careful, reliable foot care, and our clients often mention how friendly and thorough they are.

One client described Ciara as “so good at her job and a really nice person”, while another said Eamonn “was very friendly and delivered a great service.”
